Curriculum Vitae
After studying Communications Engineering at the University of Cooperative Education in
Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University) between 1988 and
1991, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann graduated as Dipl.-Ing.(BA). Afterwards, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann studied Electrical Engineering at
the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1991 to 1995
(graduation Dipl.-Ing.). In the following time he had research residencies at the Fraunhofer
Institute IIS-A in Erlangen, at the Institute of Communication Acoustics,
Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Leiden University in the Netherlands.
From 1995 to 2001 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann was employed at the Chair of Theoretical Biology
at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, Ruhr-University Bochum. He worked as a
researcher focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Image- and Video Processing,
Driver Assistance Systems and Sensor Data Fusion. Between 1998 and 2001, he headed the research
group 'Image Processing'. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann finished his dissertation in 2000 at the Faculty
of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ruhr University Bochum
(Dr.-Ing.). Between 2000 and 2008 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann was a Group Leader and Lead
Architect in the field of Biometric Systems at L-1 Identity Solutions AG (formerly
ZN Vision Technologies AG). During this period he initiated a large number of
projects in research and prototype development. Several prototypes were
further developed to products and marketed accordingly. In 2008 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann was appointed to a
professorship at the University of Applied Sciences of South Westfalia, where
he headed the laboratory of Computer Science, Image Processing and Media Technology.
Since 2010 he has been Professor at the Hochschule Ruhr West -
University of Applied Sciences. At the Bottrop Campus he is the Director of the
Computer Science Institute. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann holds the Chair in Neuroinformatics.
Since 2012 he is Scientific Director of the zdi-center Bottrop (zdi - 'Future through
Innovation') and the mint4u competence center at the Hochschule Ruhr West.
In 2013 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann was a visiting professor at the University of Science and Technology in Qingdao, China.
He is a founding member of the
Institute of Positive Computing (Hochschule Ruhr West), founded in 2016. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann is appointed member of the advisory board
of 'Umbau 21' in
Northrhine Westfalia since 2017 and is appointed member of the strategic circle of zdi
in Northrhine Westfalia since 2018. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann was the Managing Director of iQserv GmbH,
a spin-off in the field of non-destructive testing, from 2018 untill March 2021 and he is founding member and Chairman of
Prosperkolleg e.V.. In addition Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann became Scientific Director of the zdi-center
Oberhausen in 2018. Since 2021 he is
member of the Promotionskolleg NRW, Department 'Computer- and Data-Science'. Since 2021 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Handmann has been a
visiting professor at the Babeș-Bolyai-University Cluj. He is Dean of Faculty 1 at the Hochschule Ruhr West.
